Park Avenue, 5th Avenue, Lexington & Madison Avenues form the upmarket & classy Upper Manhattan (for SATC fans…this is where Charlotte lives).

Take a stroll down the seriously fashionable Madison Avenue where world-famous designers pack every conceivable space on both sides of this very wide, and very long, boulevard. From flamboyant Italian designers such as D&G, Versace and Roberto Cavalli to the Parisian chic of Christian Louboutin & Louis Vuitton to the more home-bred Ralph Lauren (there are at least four RL outlets on Madison!), this is one Avenue you won’t mind taking a long walk down! And don’t worry about low energy levels whilst out window shopping…there are at least 6 Starbucks outlets not to mention the odd, classy Nespresso outlet on Madison Avenue to ensure you get your caffeine fix along the way!

Walk a few steps from the world famous Plaza Hotel on the corner of Central Park South and you’ll be immediately faced with two, square blocks flanking each side of the entrance to 5th Avenue. This is the grand shopping institution that is known as Bergdorf Goodman (where Liza Minnelli is caught shoplifting a tie in the 1981 Dudley Moore starrer, ‘Arthur’).

The glittering window displays of Harry Winston, Bulgari, De Beers & Tiffanys (Audrey Hepburn as ‘Holly Golightly’ in he epic ‘Breakfast at Tiffanys’, anyone?) almost light up 5th Avenue! If all this leaves you gasping, stop for a breather at the landmark Trump Tower (home to ‘The Apprentice’ boss, Donald Trump) on your left where everything, both inside & outside, reminds you of King Midas (visit and you’ll see why!). Walk into the grand lobby where you can purchase souvenirs of the hit TV show, ‘The Apprentice’ and then take the escalator up to the first floor where you can enjoy a drink and a light bite at Starbucks with its glass front facing the shops on 5th Avenue.

Gaze out of the Trump Tower and you’ll see Prada right in front of you. Avert your gaze a little to the left and there you’ll find the all-American institution, Abercrombie & Fitch, famous for its fleece lined, built for Arctic winters, sweatshirts, hooded tops and tracksuits at incredible prices! Don’t be surprised if you’re greeted by a couple of jaw-dropping, gorgeous male models in the foyer of A&F….these are professional models for A&F and you can have your picture taken with them….if you’re willing to queue for up to an hour at a time! Bypass the queues and enter the dimly lit A&F for some serious eye candy as each and every one of the male sales staff here is employed purely on the basis of their looks! Hallelujah to that, we say!

And if it’s bargains you’re looking for…take a trip down Chinatown’s Canal Street where you’ll be accosted by hawkers selling you ‘genuine’ replicas of famous name brands of handbags & jewellery.  Not the real thing but you can bargain to get the price you want to pay.

But if it’s the real McCoy you’re after, we’re going to let you in one of New York’s biggest secrets…

Take the subway down to the World Trade Centre and take the short walk past the 9/11 Memorial site on your right and the Hilton Millennium on your left…

Cross the road and look up.

Right there, in front of you, is the hallowed building with the large red sign across it proclaiming….’Century 21’!!

This is the discounted all-brand store offering thousands of genuine designer goods over several floors (clothing/jewellery/accessories/luggage/household goods) at . seriously discounted prices. Real rabbit fur stoles available from $21.00; mink ear-muffs from $30.00; D&G sunglasses from $50.00; Ralph Lauren tracksuits from $30.00; Calvin Klein nightshirts from $11.00; Juicy Couture T-shirts from £12.00 and Ed Hardy jackets from $99.00…
